The muscles of the pelvic floor and around the vagina keep the tone of the vagina. With age and with stretching during childbirth, these muscles become lax, leading to loss of tone of the vaginal muscles. This may lead to decreased satisfaction during sexual intercourse. Surgery done to tighten the vaginal muscles is called vaginoplasty.
This is a form of vaginal rejuvenation and may be done alone or combined with labiaplasty.
It is done under general anaesthesia usually as day case surgery.
It is expected to have some swelling and bruising after surgery, which will settle in one to two weeks. As with most surgeries, you should avoid strenuous activity for about 6 weeks and sexual activity can also be resumed in four to six weeks. It is always advisable to follow your surgeon's post operative instructions carefully.
As women are becoming more confident and in control of their lives, they are not embarrassed to ask for vaginal surgery to improve the look and satisfaction.
